UNITING FOR CHANGE: A CALL FOR WARRI OR BURUTU FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY TO REPRESENT DELTA SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT IN 2027
The political landscape in Delta State is evolving, and now is the time for Ijaw communities in Warri and Burutu Federal Constituencies to rise and reclaim their rightful place in representation and governance. The Delta Ijaw Progressives Worldwide, DIPW., firmly believe that the upcoming 2027 Delta South Senatorial Election offers a transformative opportunity for our communities, especially with recent strategic adjustments to Ward delineations in the Warri Federal Constituency. These changes empower Warri and Burutu Ijaw communities to capture the Delta South Senatorial Seat through a robust challenge, bearing in mind that we have been unjustly excluded for far too long. It’s imperative we unite our voices in the pursuit of equity and fairness.
A fair representation at this critical juncture would energize the dreams and aspirations of our people ready to break-free from the chains, holding them for so long.
We must confront the historical injustices that have shaped our political narrative, as detailed by Hon. Prince Augustine Edumogiren in his article entitled “Delta South Senatorial Seat: A Call for Equity and Fairness”. The time for passive observation in a system that systematically marginalizes us has passed. Now is the time to galvanize our efforts, rally behind our political leaders in Warri and Burutu federal constituencies to claim the political representation that genuinely reflects our collective interests and values. We extend a heartfelt invitation to all Ijaw sons and daughters, previous aspirants and candidates of past elections across political devide from Warri and Burutu to join us in our quest for justice and equity in the forthcoming 2027 elections. Together, we can challenge the entrenched status quo and pave the way for a more inclusive future.
The Delta Ijaw Progressives Worldwide wholeheartedly resonate with Edumogiren’s compelling call for equity in the Delta South Senatorial Seat. The recent changes to Ward delineations in the Warri Federal Constituency have strategically gifted and positioned our communities with the numerical strength, adding the number of electoral Wards, mount the required and eventual capture of the Senatorial Seat in the upcoming elections. This moment transcends mere political maneuvering; it is a defining opportunity for our people to enjoy the representation that has regrettably eluded us for too long.
We urge prominent Ijaw political figures with our progress at heart, such as George Timinimi, Ebikeme Bosin, Michael Johnny and Eric Omare, from Warri Southwest; Ebilate Mac-Yoroki, Edmund Tiemo, Emmanuel O. Omoko and Felix Adanse from Warri North; and Tam Brisibe, Mike Loyibo, Patrick Yekwe and Martins T. Waboke from Burutu, and others too numerous to mention from across Warri and Burutu to adopt a proactive approach as we prepare for this pivotal electoral contest in 2027. These leaders are already endowed with natural gift and capabilities necessary to claim the Delta South Senatorial Seat and will be able to make up for the fruitless twenty years of the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency at the Senate. The resolve and readiness of our illustrious sons mentioned earlier could inspire our community to rally behind them by elevating their aspirations into a powerful platform for transformative change. Similarly, we urge prominent leaders like Godsday Peter Orubebe, Peter Yerindideke Biakpara, Braduce Angozi, Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, Wellington Okrika, Kingsley Otuaro, Solomon Funkekeme, Asupa Peter Forteta and others to stand behind the aforementioned sons of Warri and Burutu by way of blessings for the onerous task ahead. The complete emancipation of Delta Ijaws from the shackles of oppression and deprivation is urgent.
In the past 28 years, the influential position of Senator for Delta South has been disproportionately occupied by representatives from the Patani/Bomadi and Isoko North/Isoko South constituencies. This enduring domination has not only hindered the voices of Burutu and Warri South communities but has also restricted our ability to contribute meaningfully to our region’s governance. As we gear up for the 2027 elections, the time has come for us to assert our rightful claim to political representation and enthroned to shape policies that directly impact our communities.
In light of this, we call upon all Ijaw sons and daughters, especially prospective aspirants/candidates from Burutu and Warri, to rise to the occasion and emancipate us from the 28-year monopoly that has bedeviled our senatorial district. Hon. Prince Augustine Edumogiren has illuminated the historical injustices embedded within our political framework, and we must rally around these truths to galvanize our collective ambitions.
