The National Electoral Committee of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has officially started screening aspirants for its upcoming internal elections.
The screening process began on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the IYC Western Zone Secretariat Annex in Ekpan, Warri, Delta State. This exercise marks an important step toward ensuring a transparent and credible election process for the apex Ijaw youth socio-cultural organization.
Day 1 Screening Breakdown.
The first day of the exercise focused on verifying the credentials and readiness of candidates vying for three major national executive positions: Director of Mobilization, Financial Secretary, and Treasurer.
Below is the list of aspirants who appeared before the electoral committee on Day 1:
1. Director of Mobilization.
Two aspirants are competing for this critical role, which is responsible for community engagement and organizing youth activities across the Ijaw nation:
* Emieye Kemepade Romeo
* Ellington Bakumor
2. Financial Secretary.
Two candidates submitted themselves for screening to manage the financial records and administrative accounts of the council:
* Amb. Abednego Samuel Opere
* Akpule Poweide Joshua
3. Treasurer.
The race for the custodian of the council’s funds features the highest number of contestants for Day 1, with four aspirants clearing the initial step:
* Agotu Gloria Robinson
* Peter Jaja
* Keyegha Christiana Ebiware
* Brown Dumotein Birena
