OSUBI, DELTA STATE– It was a somber atmosphere at the residence of Chief Ebipade Ayabotu in Osubi as a large crowd gathered to offer support following the passing of his beloved daughter, Frances Funlayefa Ebipade.
The event drew people from all walks of life, showing the high regard in which the Chief and his family are held.
Frances Funlayefa Ebipade was a bright and ambitious young woman, and a graduate of Mass Communication from Novena University, Kwale. She was known for her excellent communication skills and her ability to connect with people easily.
Those who knew her during her studies and in her personal life described her as eloquent and intelligent, a dedicated student who had a deep passion for media and storytelling. They also described her as a kind-hearted fellow who was always ready to help others. She was a favorite among her peers and family members.
Her vibrant energy and positive outlook made her a pillar of joy in the Ayabotu household.
The news of her passing came as a shock to the community. Frances died on April 7, 2026, following a brief illness. In accordance with family wishes, she was laid to rest on the same day.
Since the announcement, the Chief’s residence has been filled with visitors. Those in attendance included Senior Comrade Victor Warefa, Warefa Pereke, Edwin Omoni, Bede Agbegha, Massah Samuel, who sat as chairman of the burial committee. Others were Chief Aguede Obosu, Emmanuel Lucky, Ebi Kevin, Kaduna Clark, Odozi Willy, Konboye Felix, Chief Fidelis P Brabo, Austin Epidei, and John Owei, who acted as spokesman for the Ayabotu family, as well as many others too numerous to mention.
Neighbours and friends including local residents arrived early to offer their physical support. A powerful delegation from the Akugbene Mein Kingdom , headed by a delegate from the revered Monarch, traveled to stand by their son, reaffirming the strong communal bonds that define the region. Individuals from across Delta State stopped by to sign the condolence register and offer words of encouragement.
Leaders from the Akugbene community urged Chief Ayabotu to stay strong, noting that while the loss is heavy, he is not mourning alone.
“Frances was a star with so much potential,” one community member shared. “To lose a graduate with such a bright future is a loss for all of Akugbene Community. We pray for strength for the family to bear this loss.”
The gathering served as a reminder of the power of community during difficult times. As the family continues to receive guests, the steady flow of visitors to the Osubi residence provides a much-needed pillar of support for Chief Ebipade Ayabotu and his entire household during this period of grief.
