HANDS-ON TECHNICAL MASTERY TAKES CENTER STAGE ON DAY 2 OF CFAO YAMAHA TRAINING IN WARRI.

WARRI, DELTA STATE — The ongoing three-day marine mechanic workshop hosted by CFAO YAMAHA at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) yard in Warri reached a pivotal milestone on its second day, delivering an intensive, practical breakdown of Yamaha’s advanced four-stroke outboard engine technology.

Transitioning from foundational orientation into practical engineering, the second day focused on the complete tear-down and structural analysis of a 200-horsepower Yamaha four-stroke outboard engine.

The interactive session allowed mechanics from across the region to gain direct experience with the complex internal systems that power modern marine vessels.

Led by head instructor Mr. Saheed alongside assistant instructor Ms. Ezinne, the day’s curriculum walked trainees through each step of the disassembly process, highlighting the critical mechanical and electronic components that distinguish four-stroke outboards from traditional two-stroke models:

  • Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) & Valve Train: The instructors demonstrated how the overhead camshaft and timing belt systems operate, explaining how precise valve timing optimizes fuel intake and exhaust gas exchange to maximize horsepower and torque across varying speeds.
  • Vapor Separator Tank (VST) & Fuel Injection: Mechanics examined the internal fuel circuit, focusing on how the VST isolates fuel vapor, prevents vapor lock, and delivers pressurized fuel to the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system for reliable engine starts and smooth throttle response.
  • High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Trainees learned the maintenance and diagnostic procedures required for maintaining high-pressure fuel supply lines and filters essential for clean combustion.
  • Water Cooling System: The session detailed the thermostatic cooling passages, water pump impeller dynamics, and flush routing designed to prevent engine overheating and combat salt or sediment buildup in local water channels.

The hands-on demonstration gave participants a clear line of sight into diagnostic methods, routine inspection intervals, and precise assembly techniques. Throughout the disassembly, Mr. Saheed and Ms. Ezinne addressed real-world field scenarios, offering troubleshooting strategies tailored to common maritime operating conditions in the Niger Delta.

Trainees actively engaged in the step-by-step tear-down, asking detailed technical questions and gaining the hands-on confidence needed to independently maintain and repair 200hp four-stroke engines once the program concludes.

The workshop will wrap up with its final sessions, focusing on engine reassembly, electronic system diagnostics, and the presentation of technical tools and certifications to the graduating mechanics on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
