The Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (SWUYN) is calling on Minister of Regional Development Engr. Abubakar Momoh to prioritize transparency, accountability and focus on real issues instead of stirring up controversy. Despite the allocations and federal budget, all we have seen is talk, talk, talk, with little to no action. While SWUYN is not concerned with the succession or tenure of NDDC positions, or what is occupying what, we urge the Minister to focus on delivering tangible results and progress to the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large. Since his appointment as Minister, what tangible achievements can he boast of? What tangible projects and initiatives has he implemented to benefit the region and its unemployed youths?
As stakeholder in nation building, we are compelled to express our deep concern about the perceived disparity in the performance of ministers under President Tinubu’s administration. While some Minister’s are working towards the country’s progress, others are disgracing themselves.
Over the past few weeks, we have been following the news about President Tinubu’s ministers, and we must say that the achievements of the FCT Minister, former Gov. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, are truly impressive. The approval of the University of Environment for Ogoniland, Rivers State is a remarkable feat, and the securing of over 50 juicy federal appointments for his Rivers people is a testament to his dedication to empowering his constituents and the unemployed youths.
Kudos to FCT Minister Wike for his outstanding performance in the FCT! He has been making waves with his impressive projects, and it’s great to see Minister Wike’s efforts bearing fruit, and his leadership has not gone unnoticed. President Tinubu himself has lauded Minister Wike’s capacity to build and lead a team. Minister Wike’s dedication to empowering the FCT community and his people is truly commendable. His initiatives have brought joy to the residents, and his commitment to completing projects on time is impressive.
In stark contrast, Minister Abubakar Momoh, who oversees the Ministry of Regional Development and was the immediate past Minister of Niger Affairs, seems to be lacking in tangible initiatives and empowerment programmes for unemployed youths in the Niger Delta region and Edo State where he hails from. SWUYN is not satisfied with the Minister’s performance, and we are watching him closely. His stewardship as Minister of Regional Development has been marked by a lack of concrete results.
We are not interested in political posturing and distractions; instead, we want to see concrete evidence of how the Minister’s leadership has improved the lives of the unemployed youths and communities. It’s time for Engr. Abubakar Momoh to demonstrate his commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that the region receives the development and progress it deserves.
As stakeholders, we urge Minister Momoh to take immediate action to address the rising unemployment rates, poverty, and infrastructure deficits affecting our youths and regions. The time for promises and rhetoric is over; it’s time for concrete actions and results.
As SWUYN, we demand that Minister Momoh provides a clear roadmap for empowering unemployed youths, investing in infrastructure development, and promoting economic growth in the regions.
To this end, we pose the following questions to Minister Momoh, all government agencies and leaders and demand to know:
What are your achievements since assuming office?
- How have you utilized allocated budget, funds and resources?
- What measures have you taken to address unemployment, poverty, and underdevelopment in your region?
- What initiatives has Minister Momoh implemented to address unemployment in the Niger Delta region and Edo State?
- What infrastructure development projects has Minister Momoh undertaken to promote economic growth in the region?
- How many appointments and empowerments has Minister Momoh influenced to his people?
- How many youths from the Niger Delta region and Edo State have benefited from Minister Momoh’s appointment specifically, empowerment programmes?
Minister Abubakar Momoh, your silence is deafening! We, the unemployed youths of Nigeria, demand to know: WHERE ARE THE JOBS? WHERE ARE THE EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES? WHERE ARE THE OPPORTUNITIES AND PROJECTS?
We request that Minister Momoh provides a detailed response to our demands within the next 14 days. If we do not receive a satisfactory response, we will be forced to mobilize our members and take to the streets to demand action from his ministry.
We call for transparency and accountability across all government agencies and leaders. The lack of accountability has led to stagnation and underdevelopment in many regions. It’s time for our leaders to take responsibility for their actions and decisions.
