Rivers State, Port Harcourt – The Egbema youths are staging a peaceful protest at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to draw urgent attention to the deplorable and impassable condition of the Udo-Ofunama road. This critical roadway, which links several major towns and villages across Edo and Delta States, has deteriorated to a state where commuting has become a nightmare for residents and travelers alike.
The road’s condition is so bad that vehicles frequently get stuck in the mud, sometimes for days, forcing commuters to push their vehicles through thick and heavy muck and slimy mud. Many have had to dirty themselves repeatedly while trying to navigate this critical route, a situation that has led to widespread frustration and hardship for all who depend on the road for daily transportation, trade, and access to essential services.
The Egbema youths are calling on Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to intervene and prioritize the immediate rehabilitation of the Udo-Ofunama road. Their peaceful protest underscores the urgency of restoring this vital infrastructure, not only to ease transportation but also promote economic activities and improve the quality of life for communities in the region.
Their appeal is a clear message to the NDDC and relevant authorities that the time to act on this longstanding issue is now.
