AKUGBENE, DELTA STATE – It was a day of immense pride and cultural splendor as the Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, HRM Pere S.P. Luke, Kalanama VIII (JP), led the entire community to celebrate one of their most illustrious sons, Professor Solomon Tamaraubrakaemi Ebobrah.
The “Mega Celebration” was organized to honor Professor Ebobrah’s landmark appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), Bayelsa State. The event brought together dignitaries, academics, and traditional leaders to witness the homecoming of a man who has reached the peak of academic excellence.
The Monarch, HRM Pere S.P. Luke Kalanama VIII (JP), described Professor Ebobrah as a “shining light” and a worthy ambassador of the Akugbene-Mein Kingdom. He noted that the Professor’s rise to the position of Vice-Chancellor is not just a personal victory, but a victory for the entire kingdom. The King prayed for wisdom and strength for the Professor as he leads the prestigious University of Africa to greater heights.
The ceremony was filled with the rich cultural heritage of the Ijaw people, featuring traditional dances and heartfelt tributes.
The program was expertly anchored by the renowned Chief Ebipade Ayabotu, popularly known as the Egberigide 1 of Niger Delta. His mastery of the ceremony kept the audience engaged and added a unique local flavor to the proceedings.
A powerful and moving citation of the celebrant’s life and achievements was read by Professor Ben Binibai. He detailed Professor Ebobrah’s journey from his early days to becoming a globally recognized legal scholar and a respected academic administrator.
Professor Solomon Ebobrah is a distinguished Professor of Law. Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, he had already built a reputation as an expert in International Law and Human Rights. His leadership at the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, is seen as a major win for the Niger Delta region, as he brings a wealth of experience and a vision for modern education.
The Akugbene community turned out in large numbers to show their support. Speakers at the event praised the Professor for his humility despite his high achievements. The celebration served as a reminder to the youths of the community that through hard work, education, and dedication, they too can reach the top of their chosen careers.
The event concluded with a grand reception, as the sounds of the Ijaw drums echoed through the kingdom, marking a day that will be remembered for years to come.
