Warri, Delta State – Comrade Victor Warefa, a prominent political figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, has strongly condemned the recent protest and petition by a group of individuals of Itsekiri extraction, demanding the cancellation of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo).
Speaking to journalists in Warri, Comrade Warefa described the protest as ill-advised and detrimental to the peace and economic stability of Delta State and the nation as a whole.
He emphasized the critical role Tantita Security Services has played in curbing crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which had previously crippled Nigeria’s oil production and revenue.
“It is regrettable that at a time when the federal government, through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), is making significant strides in combating oil theft, some individuals are engaging in activities that could undermine these efforts,” Comrade Warefa stated. “The pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services has demonstrably yielded positive results, leading to a remarkable increase in crude oil production and a drastic reduction in pipeline breaches.”
Comrade Warefa highlighted that the fight against oil theft is a collective responsibility and not one that should be politicized or tribalized. He noted that the beneficiaries of the contract are not just individuals but also the host communities who have seen improved security and economic activities as a result of Tantita’s operations.
“The economic impact of crude oil theft on our nation cannot be overstated. Millions of barrels were being stolen daily, leading to massive revenue losses for the government and hindering national development,” he explained. “Tantita Security Services, under the leadership of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, has effectively risen to this challenge, and their efforts deserve commendation, not condemnation.”
The APC stalwart urged the protesting group to sheath their swords and engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to actions that could destabilize the region. He called on all stakeholders, irrespective of their ethnic background, to support initiatives aimed at securing national assets and promoting economic growth.
Comrade Warefa reiterated the APC’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity in Delta State and the Niger Delta region. He advised that grievances should be channeled through appropriate legal and administrative avenues, emphasizing that the progress made in the oil sector by Tantita Security Company should not be jeopardized by sectional interests.
