Deworming children is essential because it reduces intestinal worm infections like hookworm, roundworm and whipworm. It also prevents malnutrition and malabsorption of vital nutrients into the body. It boosts the immune system, improves cognitive function and school performance in children, as well as decreases risk of anemia and other health problems.

The consequences of not deworming are numerous. Intestinal worms can consume essential nutrients in the body. Malnutrition and stunted growth can set in, leading to an impaired cognitive development, increased risk of infections and diseases. As a result, one’s quality of life can be reduced drastically. Target Groups for Deworming are:

  1. Children aged 1-14 years.
  2. Pregnant women.
  3. Individuals with weakened immune systems.

It is on this note that the Cordinator of Ijaw Monitoring Group and former publicity secretary of Ijaw national Congress (INC), Comrade Joseph Evah, Sponsored the yearly Deworming of Children programme in the creeks of Niger Delta. This year, he mobilised materials to Arogbo town during the 2024 Arogbo-Ibe Day festival in ondo state.

The yearly Deworming programme managed by the National Association of ijaw female students (NAIFS) worldwide will storm Arogbo-Ibe for the exercise. Comrade Evah commissioned IYDA ladies to move the Deworming drugs from Lagos this year to the National Association of Ijaw Female Students (NAIFS)’ members already in AROGBO, to enter the creeks.

Comrade Joseph Evah is using this medium to encourage all Arogbo indigenes, especially those in the creeks to come out and embrace this kind gesture.
